Privacy

Noggin is a MacOS app. It does not have an account system and does not run ads. This page describes what the current beta does.

On your MacOS

Settings, module choices, timer presets, notes, and similar preferences stay in standard MacOS storage on this computer.

If you connect Canvas, your personal API token is stored in the MacOS Keychain. The school URL is stored in preferences. Noggin does not upload the token to us. We do not operate a Noggin backend for it.

Clipboard history, if that module is on, keeps the last few copied strings on this MacOS so you can paste them again. Obvious secrets (tokens, mixed-case passwords) are skipped. Do not treat the notch as a password manager.

Pocket, which ships on, copies files you drop there into Caches/NogginPocket on this MacOS. Voice memos, if you install that module, write .m4a files under Application Support/Noggin/Memos. Mic check writes a short temporary recording in the MacOS temp folder for playback. Compress zips files locally with MacOS ditto.

What leaves your MacOS

• Canvas — if you paste a token, Noggin sends it as a Bearer token only to the HTTPS Canvas URL you entered, to load your assignments.
• Weather — if you allow Location, Noggin sends approximate coordinates to Open-Meteo. No account. If Location is off, weather stays empty.
• Music artwork — album art may be fetched from Spotify’s public oEmbed endpoint when a track is playing.
• Translator — if you install that module, the text you type is sent to an unofficial Google Translate endpoint (client=gtx). No Noggin account. That endpoint is not a supported Google API and can disappear.
• Speed test — if you use that module, Noggin probes public endpoints for ping, download, and upload. No account.
• YouTube save / Spotify save — if you install those modules, yt-dlp on this MacOS fetches an https YouTube or Spotify link you pasted. Spotify save is not an official Spotify download.
• Updates — Noggin polls https://nogginusa.com/update.json and, if you choose to install, downloads the disk image from that same host. It opens the file only if the sha256 in the feed matches.

Calendar, reminders, Music/Spotify automation, Bluetooth, camera, and microphone stay on-device through Apple’s permission system. The camera is used only when you open Mirror or eye-strain closeness, and it stops when you close that view. Face geometry is not stored. The microphone is used only for Voice memos and Mic check. Accessibility is requested if you turn on the volume/brightness HUD so Noggin can replace the system overlay.

This website

The marketing site is static files. It does not set first-party analytics cookies. It may load fonts from Google Fonts, which is a third party.
